Meeting Brittany, mother from Denver - USA
Based in Denver but travel lover, Brittany is the happy mother of a baby girl named Georgina who will turn one this summer. She is the apple of her eye!
Brittany is also founder of The CashmereGypsy, a fashion, beauty and lifestyle blog through which she shares her tips and ideas. With a discerning eye for all things beautiful, she is constantly on the lookout for new inspiration. We love discovering her latest findings!
Before sharing a fun play session with her daughter, she kindly took time to reflect upon our questions.
WHAT HAS THE LOCKDOWN TAUGHT YOU?
I think the quarantine imposed by the coronavirus pandemic has made me focus on simplicity. It has reminded me of the things that truly matter in life : health, love, family and friends.
Amidst the tragedy, I have witnessed acts of kindness and love, often between strangers. Our family has had meals catered for healthcare workers, neighbors are grocery shopping for the elderly in our community, restaurants make and donate food to the hungry, people sew and give free masks to the hospitals and our entire city cheers for the frontline workers every night at eight. It is truly beautiful and gives me much hope for a better future.
WHAT ARE YOU MOST GRATEFUL FOR?
I am most grateful for my daughter. The extra time together as a family has been a blessing. It has shown us that the quiet moments are often the most memorable.
WHAT IS THE FAVORITE ACTIVITY/CRAFT YOU HAVE SHARED WITH YOUR CHILD SINCE THE BEGINNING OF THE LOCKDOWN?
We love playing together! We put scarves into a little wooden box with an opening in the top. My daughter who is eight months old loves pulling them out over and over again!
We've also been reading lots of books and dancing to our favorite music in the kitchen.
CAN YOU SHARE A FAVORITE RECIPE FROM YOUR COUNTRY?
My mother's ancestors came from Wales and brought over a very special bread recipe. The women in my family have been making it for generations and I'd love to share it with you. We usually make ours into dinner rolls. Nothing is more comforting than the scent of fresh bread and it always brings back happy memories!
WHICH INSTAGRAM ACCOUNTS INSPIRE YOU THE MOST AT THE MOMENT?
Would you like to add anything? To share a final word?
To the mamas out there : we are in this together, we are united. We are a global community and we will get through this all together!
I know this pandemic can be terrifying when you have the health and safety of little ones and loved ones to consider. It can be stressful to manage everything, including educating children at home.
Remember not to be so hard on yourselves. Your children will not mind if the kitchen isn't spotless or if you're not the perfect homeschool teacher. Focus on making memories with your children and they will be happy.
This time is a chance to spend more time with them and to embrace the simple pleasures of life. The pressures of everyday life will be waiting for us after this is over, so let's enjoy the slower pace and quiet moments with our little ones while we can.
