Meeting Pia from Copenhagen - Denmark

Currently living in Copenhagen, Pia is mother to two children, Ines and Alfred! Besides taking care of her family, she is also a face yoga teacher, a registered nurse and a skin expert! She recently published a book about her work and passion called 11 minutes of face yoga.

Very dynamic, constantly smiling and spreading zen vibes around her, we were delighted to have the opportunity of discussing with her!

WHAT HAS THE LOCKDOWN TAUGHT YOU?

The quarantine has confirmed what I already believed in. Simplicity and predictability make children happy. Having a basic routine helps them to feel reassured.

Sheltered in place, many of us worry about every day been the same and feel guilty not offering enough diversity. But kids do not mind watching the same view from the window, playing with the same toys and eating the same meals! Quite the opposite! I am sure you have all noticed that our little ones always ask for the same bedtime stories and enjoy nothing more than playing their favorite game over and over again!

And if ever they do get bored, it is not such a bad thing! When children get out of their comfort zone, they become creative! I have seen so many wonderful fun activities invented during the lockdown.

WHAT ARE YOU MOST GRATEFUL FOR?

For my family and health of course. I am so grateful to have two amazing and joyful children,.

I also feel lucky to have lived in some many different countries, in both big and small cities. It has taught me a lot on how to understand others while making me appreciate my own home country even more. So despite the lockdown, I am happy to be in Denmark.

Finally, I have to mention that I am thankful to have the gift of finding opportunities and positivity in all situations. I won't break down if something does not go as planned. Maybe because I keep facing challenges or perhaps because I did not really have a plan in the first place... Whatever the reason I am good at going with the flow and adapting to new circumstances. It comes to me very naturally! It has helped many times and is once again proving very useful during this pandemic.

WHAT IS THE FAVORITE ACTIVITY/CRAFT YOU HAVE SHARED  WITH YOUR CHILDREN SINCE THE BEGINNING OF THE LOCKDOWN?

Oil painting on canvas. We have been practicing it as a family and all love it! I used to paint a lot when I was younger and even went to art school. It is so nice to bring this hobby back to life and share my passion with my darlings.

We have also started learning a new language together! It is very funny trying to pronounce complex words and making up sentences!

Besides, we have created a new routine. Every Saturday and Sunday night, we cook all together as a family. It is very therapeutic and is a great way of bonding. Everyone has its own task. My son is... let us say... the kitchen assistant. He will for example wash the already washed tomatoes! My daughter is very good at cutting veggies and my husband makes all the sauces and everything that needs measuring. It's a great team work!

CAN YOU SHARE YOUR FAVORITE RECIPE FROM YOUR COUNTRY?

I love cooking so I cannot pick one. Here are my top four!

Karelia´s pies for sure. Yes, those weird Finnish looking rye pies with rice porridge in the middle. I know it sounds super weird but straight from the oven with a little butter on the crusty top, they are the best.

Second would be wild blueberries and strawberries picked from the bushes of the cottage next door and eaten with milk and a sprinkle of sugar on top.

Third is spinach pancakes with lingonberry jam. Another Finnish favorite!

Fourth, when I still ate fish, nothing was better than rye bread with gravlax and dill.

WHOULD YOU LIKE TO ADD SOMETHING WHICH YOU HAVE AT HEART? SHARE A YOGA FACE TIP?

My motto is "Self-care is not a quick fix. It's forever lasting results". Long term happiness and overall well-being is like a garden, it needs to be nurtured daily!
It is the sum of all the actions you take that will make the flower bloom.
Self-care acts doesn´t have to be difficult. We just need to find what is right for us!
For me face yoga is what works best. It is an easy, timesaving yet very effective way of taking care of yourself. You can do it wherever and whenever with no equipement required! That´s why I got so hooked. I could not go a day without my KORPIA face yoga now!
If you would like to try, I invite you to look at my profile! Don't hesitate to reach out, I am always happy to answer all your questions.
And to finish I wish the best of luck to everyone. Let's stay positive no matter what comes next.
